Schedule: Monday – Thursday 8:00-5:00
Pay: $17-18/Hour
Position Summary:
The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for clients, donors, and visitors at the Samaritan Center, a non-profit social services agency committed to supporting individuals and families in need. This role provides essential front-desk support and ensures smooth communication, scheduling, and client intake processes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and strong organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome all visitors and clients to the Center; notify staff when appointments arrive.
- Collaborate with team members and provide support as needed for general operations.
- Answer and route incoming phone calls using a multi-line telephone system.
- Respond to voicemail messages and return calls in a timely and professional manner.
- Provide accurate information about the Samaritan Center’s thrift store, including hours of operation and donation dock hours.
- Assist with initial screening of prospective clients, including reviewing required documentation.
- Schedule client appointments with case managers using internal software.
- Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the reception area.
- Accept small in-person donations and direct larger donations to the donation dock.
- Assist individuals with the purchase of gift certificates for the thrift store.
- Report monthly and quarterly data related to client service appointments.
- Support the upkeep of the community bulletin board, lobby and chapel literature displays, and Little Free Library.
- Maintain and troubleshoot basic telecommunication systems.
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Social Services.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic computer applications.
- Ability to learn and navigate the Samaritan Center’s internal software system.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management.
- Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism.
- Ability to manage stress and maintain a client-centered, service-focused approach.
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in customer service or a non-profit setting preferred but not required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements:
- Frequent sitting, standing, bending, and reaching throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift small donations or materials as needed (typically under 25 lbs).
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and public-facing environment.
