The Samaritan Center’s social services department works hard throughout the year to craft programs that will provide the biggest impact. However, the way we meet the needs of our community varies and the tools we use look different from season to season. From our Thanksgiving food drive to the spring cleaning drive, to stock their lockers, our social service department keeps a busy schedule. Many of these programs are widely known and supported by churches, businesses and community partners. However, there is a much smaller program providing a big impact year-round.

If you have been in the lobby of our store you might have seen a small red and gray box next to the door of our social services office. Opening the door of the box you will see books on shelves inside free for the taking. This is what we call the Little Free Library. Each book on the shelves has been donated, counted, and prepared so that parents and children have free access to books. In 2019 the Samaritan Center gave 1,205 books to people in our community through the Little Free Library.

There are many ways the Samaritan Center touches the heart of our community through both big and small programs. However, throughout seasons and changes, we find small actions made toward positive changes daily, make the biggest impact.
