Kristine smiled warmly, “The unusual times we live in certainly call for unusual actions,” she mused as she held a financial donation outside of her car window and sprayed it with disinfectant. Kristine was happy that she could give back to a community that had given her so much. She understood that between the coronavirus pandemic and the Easter tornadoes there was a great deal of need. With so many people experiencing struggles, Kristine wanted to do her part to help people get through the disaster and health crisis they were now facing.

Not long ago Kristine had experienced for herself the anxiety and desperation of being in a personal crisis. During that time the Samaritan Center had been there for her when she was struggling and now Kristine was delighted to be at a place where she could give back and support her community through donating.

“Giving to others will not take away from what you have but in fact will add to your life.” – Catherine Pulsifer

COVID-19 shut down many businesses including the Samaritan Center’s thrift store, but our social services department was able to continue assisting people by phone. Our social services department regularly helps people with utilities, rent, or life-sustaining medications; food through our Community Food Pantry; clothing, furniture, and household items through our thrift stores; cleaning supplies and personal care products that cannot be purchased with food stamps as well as other forms of assistance. Every week the Samaritan Center provides help for today and hope for tomorrow for people in need just like Kristine.

The Samaritan Center would not be able to help the community in this way without generous gifts from our donors like Kristine. Catherine Pulsifer wisely said, “Giving to others will not take away from what you have but in fact will add to your life.” If you would like to partner with us and give back to the community please call 423-238-7777 or give online at https://thesamaritancenter.net/give-back/financial/
