With the beginning of a new year many hope that 2021 will be better than 2020. However, for some their hopes for a better new year have already gone up in flames, literally. Home fire assistance is one of the various services the Samaritan Center is able to offer to support those in our community.

When an individual in the community suffers fire damage to their home and belongings the Red Cross partners with the Samaritan Center to provide assistance. To best assess the need of the individual our Social Services Department requires an ID, a fire report and a referral from the Red Cross.

The Social Services Department offers a variety of home fire assistance options based on the needs of the client. They can provide gift cards to shop in our thrift stores, personal care items from Gifts for Jesus and food from our pantry. Also, if furniture was lost in the fire, once the client has a new home, they can shop for furniture in our thrift store.

Thanks to our supporters, the Social Services Department has already been able to assist several community members this year who have lost property to home fires. With continued support the social services team will be able to continue to reach out and meet the needs of those in our community.
