Memorial and Celebration

Tornadoes ripped across the southeast on April 27, 2011, devastating the countryside and taking many lives. One year later, the Apison-Cherokee Valley Committee, working with the Samaritan Center and other agencies, held a memorial services to remember those whose lives were lost.

The next day, the community gathered again to celebrate the recovery that so many have worked together to complete. First responders and volunteers were specially recognized for their work in rebuilding this community.

Close to 400 people attended both events, enjoying refreshments and lunch and spending time as a community. And any residents of the Apison-Cherokee Valley area were also able to get free weather radios to help them feel a little more prepared for anything that may come their way.
